Street Art Sculpture III

I love street art sculpture; this is my third post about it (see Street Art Sculpture and More Street Art Sculpture). Not all of the street sculptures that I’ve written about are still there; some have weathered well, some have been painted over and others have been removed. Such is the nature of all street art. But there are some new ones around, especially the rainbows by GT who saved the best one for Hosier Lane.

The Good, the Bad and the Average

Bicycling around boho Brunswick, I wanted to catch the last of the sun before the weather turns cold and I was looking for something to write about. I stopped off at Tinning Street Presents where there is a contemporary collage exhibition, “Splitting Image”. Maybe I should add a postscript to my review of the collage exhibition at the Counihan Gallerybut “Splitting Image” is just another average exhibition of collage. It is just not as exciting as the art just outside the gallery’s door in Ilhan Lane.

L’atelier de Monsieur Truffe III

April 14, 2012Michael and I psyched ourselves up for some Saturday errands with breakfast at Monsieur Truffe's Brunswick outpost, L'atelier. While they were doing a good trade, we were a little surprised to see them at less than full capacity - we slipped straight into a table for two. There's good news on the menu front! Vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan adaptable options are all marked on the menu. These include tapioca and poached quince with fruit and nut crumble, a couple of hearty salads and the 'full vegie' breakfast that Michael ordered ($16.50).... read more

splitting image : tinning street

Last night I sauntered through the contemporary collage wonderland that is Splitting Image. In a word? Fabulous! Collage the way I like it – no digital tricks, just cutting, pasting, and reinvention of some amazingly lush found materials. If you’ve got an unloved stash of National Geographics at home, this show will inspire you to create and enoy a whole bunch of new realities!

Vibrant works by Rupert Carr-Gregg, Zoe Croggon, Minna Gilligan, Lillian O’Neil, Georgia Robenstone and Tai Snaith, on at Tinning Street until April 22.

Vanilla Bean Dream

Dawn Vachon doesn't call her work Vanilla Bean Dream, that's my description of the clay she's created for this range of serving ware. It's a warm clay with little black flecks through it, the vessels are glazed with a clear gloss on the inside and sanded smooth on the outside - very nice indeed. I like the way they stack and can be inverted for height. Very smart.
