i read in the paper the other day (the age, australia day) about a young guy who has designed and built a new stove-top coffee maker. it sounds incredible. the creator, craig heron, wanted to make an espresso-style coffee at his home, but found that most stove-top coffees lack body. his machine OTTO looks beautiful - all stainless steel and you can even steam milk with it.the article was supported by the east brunswick project's coffee gurus - they approve!you can read more about OTTO and even order it, here.ok. bring on tomorrow and some COFFEE. delish.

Dear Moreland BUG bods Bicycle Victoria will soon be going live with their registration page to sign up as a counter for Super Tuesday, their annual bike count, this year to be held on March 2nd. They’re always looking for more counters and it’s a good thing to do. You need to be at your nominated spot from 7–9 am, and count away, watch the sun rise, and support cycling through recording the ever-increasing bike numbers. You can also help the Moreland BUG, if you nominate it for the $50 reward that can go to a club or school. This is Moreland ...
Grandma Chuckles has truly outdone herself. She has decided to make all those wonderful things normally reserved for the special little Charlie girl available to the general public. When we moved into our new house with our lovely sparkly polished boards, the poor little Chuckles was banging her giant head all the time as she rolled and crawled around the lounge room. Grandma Chuckles made a beautiful quilt/playmat that cushioned the blow and provided a warmer place for her to play. Even now that Charlie is 20 months old she still protests when the mat needs to go in the ...
These cups are by Chandra Paul. Incised terracotta with blue decoration and white glaze.
Rudest service I have ever experienced in Melbourne. We arrived at 6.15pm, there was ONE table that had four people sitting at it and four people waiting at the bar to be served. We waited TEN MINUTES to have our order taken, then, no Bulmers ontap today, oh can I have a ginger beer, after faffing around, running out the back, no ginger beer today, oh well I guess we'll have soda water. I was seething by then but thought bugger it I'll just have my meal and go. We ate the cheese and bacon burger first which was really ...
It has been a really long time since I made a post. But that doesn't mean that I stopped eating! Far from it, its the best time of year for eating, and believe me, I've done well. I got really busy finding a new place to live, moving into the new house, starting a new job, surviving christmas and starting a new year! So as well as my memory serves me, I will attempt to wrap up of the places I have been and the things I have seen....The move has bought me within walking distance to Banda Parte` Pizza. ...

Who buys giant tennis balls? Tennis balls in their original size work well – they can be hit by racquets without too much fuss, you can use it in place of a cricket ball for beach cricket and you can play fetch with it with your dog. Take these giant versions – are there giant racquets, or giant cricket bats? So what is the point of a giant tennis ball? Dogs like them and the giant versions are better than the normal size as dogs can’t puncture it. The Diadora website lists the giant tennis ball as an accessory (an ...
Hand assembled rolled little milk pourers by Andrew Widdis available in our shop and online.
That's coz they're sleeping tablets, duh. Talk about stating the bleeding obvious. My doc gave me a prescription of Stilnox, a grand total of 14 tablets. I'm looking forward to seeing if I sleepwalk/talk/eat/drink/bemerry. If you google Stilnox CR (the one I've got) there's so many scary stories out there, to be honest I'm not sure if I'll take them! Then again, I'm a curious lass... ha ha ha!I slept quite well last night, but then again I was so full of codeine I probably had no choice. I stopped taking my pill a couple of days ago and my ...

Dinner! Tom Phat! Lisa! Finally! This dinner had been a long time in the making and I was trepidatious as to what Tom Phat could offer for din dins (especially after miss ts dispariging experience) well, it was awesome. I asked the waitress what was vegan on the menu and pointed to every item that was vegan adaptable (what ingrediants would be taken out/replaced) and the items that were stand alone vegan. Impressive.Top shot: Nasi Goreng w- Tofu and Tempeh skewers. The sweet soy, tart tamarind sauce and the smoky oils made the dish drool worthy delicious. Amazing.Buddhas Delight: Beancurd, ...
Every time I think I'm on top of the great cafes of the inner-north, something new and wonderful turns up. Take the Sydney Road strip: we've happily chowed down at Ray, Tom Phat, Cafe 3A, Empire, Green Refectory, Minimo, A Minor Place and Robbies Stein and I was short on enthusiasm for the few places left. But then Brian started gushing about Court Jester and my ears pricked up. We've enjoyed Eastern-European style food before, but both Brian and Ange had pretty meat heavy meals and so I assumed it just wasn't going to work for us.Still, ...
Gosh darn it I completely forgot! I've been in a foul mood for the past couple of days, I don’t know whats up with me. It will pass. I didn’t do much last week, I was tired and settling into my second week back in hell (I'm looking for a job so if you hear of anything let me know, I can do web analyst stuff, project coordination stuff). Blah. I have a major case of the blahs.OutBirthday Party - Penny BlackBirthdays hey. The Penny Black is really great, Erin Tasmania is djaying there a lot lately playing gorgeous ...
The new space is slowly transforming.
Who buys life-sized painted replicas of animals, like bears, gorillas and giraffes? All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things bright and wonderful, this shop has stocked them all. Once again we descend into the depths of décor gone mad with replicas of half of Noah’s ark on display. Animals are popular and if you can’t have the real thing then these life-sized replicas could be a poor substitute. But who wants a replica gorilla in their garden or a replica bull in their backyard? Who has the space let alone matching décor? Mark photographed this stuff in ...
Well, I thought I would make it official. I am expecting another little bundle of joy, hopefully not too little though! I have big plans to keep this one safely inside till at least 36 weeks. We are due on July 29 and can’t wait to make Charlie Chuckles the best little big sister in town. Stay tuned, I will shortly be posting pics of our new stock. Markets coming soon; Midsumma Rainbow Market at Northcote Town Hall, Jan 30 and Sisters Market, Brunswick Town Hall, Feb 6. See you there!
A new, ‘trendy’ cafe has opened in Coburg! Does this mean we are finally getting some hip Brunswick overspill? Ummmm, maybe not. And, who cares? I first moved to Coburg in 1998, and I like it, dammit! Carpa is modern-looking, with tables inside and out, and a couch; it’s pretty comfortable. The menu isn’t vegan friendly at all (only toast available, perhaps with avocado!) but they do an ok coffee, though at $3.70 it’s not particularly cheap: Carpa is not Coburg’s only cafe, however. As well as assorted little places that probably aren’t worth a mention, there’s O’Heas Bakery, a milkbar-type place ...
The communal tables at Court Jester cafe in Brunswick are strewn with textas, colouring books, magazines, newspapers and tools for carving directly into the table, and someone has carved ‘pole fetish’ into the table. Maybe they like strippers, but it’s more likely they’re obsessed with Court Jester’s excellent Polish food. I definitely am. Last time I was there with a friend we ordered the Jester’s lunch (kreplakh and Russian potato salad) and cabbage rolls. We’re so in love with these that we ordered the same again this time. We also tried the most decadent cake. Sour cherry chocolate cake served warm ...

When the weather has been pleasant I have been riding my bicycle around and photographing street art in Brunswick. I saw a guy with a tattoo designed by Phibs on his calf, a permanent commitment to Phibs tribal inspired style. And it is not the first street art inspired tattoo that I have seen. There are plenty of new pieces in the streets between Brunswick and Anstey stations. At Royal Nuts, the whole factory painted by people from Don’t Ban the Can with a nutty theme. If you want to see how good Melbourne legal street art can be, look around ...

hi its kati cubby here, writing to you live and direct from Buenos Aires in Argentina!!!!I have been on a rough and tough tour of second hand clothing stores all over south america and they are really not what i expected.... !!!!!Like, here second hand clothes are really fashionable and trendy and cost more then new clothes, (this is also the case in Japan).I have been to HEAPS of stores, in chile, bolivia and argentina, and the prices are EQUAL to australian prices, which, given the currency/economics of it all, makes them.....heaps and heaps expeno !!!!!anyway, just thought ...
We weren't too upset when our first breakfast preference (Bar Idda) turned out not to be open on Saturday mornings afer all. It meant we could happily duck across the street and into Small Block, which was busy but not crowded. Cindy maintained her virtue from our breakfast at 3A last week, once again choosing muesli to get the weekend started. This was bircher muesli, served up with poached rhubarb and organic yoghurt ($8.50). I'm not sure it was quite as impressive as the macadamia-garnished delight from last week, but Cindy and poached rhubarb usually make for a pretty ...
