The next BUG ride: Lilydale to Warburton

The next Moreland BUG ride is scheduled for the 13th and 14th of March and we will ride the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail! The distance is 38 km each way. The rail is mainly flat and there are lot’s of stops along the way (a gentle rise over Mt Evelyn – trains don’t climb so well eh). We plan to stay overnight in Warburton and ride back to Lilydale on the next day. They have a lovely campsite in Warburton, right next to the Yarra River. The BUG Rides are back!

Hello Buggies, Finally, the rides are back! After quite some time without any BUG rides we managed to get them back on track. The first ride for this year is scheduled for February 14th and will go to the Studley Park Boathouse. We will have two departing points: We will depart from O’ Heas Street Bakery at 9.30 am. From there we will go to the Noise Bar in Brunswick to pick up additional riders. We would expect to leave the Noise Bar by approx 9.45 am. Courtesy of BikeFun, here are some regular local rides that might be of interest… The Crosskeys Cruisers – Strathmore – Friday rides The Crosskeys Cruisers are a group of retired men and women who meet in the Crosskeys CarPark near the Strathmore station at 9am on Friday mornings. The rides are decided each Friday and the adventure begins. Some riders go till morning tea while others ride till lunch and then home at about 3pm. Ride to Fawkner Festival

One more sleep till the Fawkner Festival! Should be a bit of fun. If anyone would like to ride together in a suitably relaxed manner, Bill has organised a ride from outside the Railway Hotel (a.k.a. ‘Noise Bar’, located where the Upfield Shared Path crosses Albert Street, MEL 29 G8) at 9:30am (Sunday, November 15). Bill has factored in oodles of time, to suit all riders, kids etc. Hope to see you there!


The Fawkner Festival is being held on Sunday 15th November this year between 11am and 4pm at Mooma Park, McBryde Street, Fawkner. The Fawkner Festival is a community festival with music, stalls, food, children’s activities and rides. The Festival is organised by a committee of residents and representatives of local community groups. The Moreland Bicycle Users Group is intending on holding a stall at the event and require volunteers to help out. Ride to Work day

Wednesday 14 October 2009 is National Ride to Work Day, a day to celebrate cycling. Across Australia, work places and community groups will host Ride to Work Day breakfasts to reward people who choose the healthy commute. Last year Moreland City Council hosted a community breakfast in Victoria Mall which attracted around 100 cyclists. This year is going to be even bigger with community breakfasts in three locations across Moreland. 1.
