Location: 257 Lygon St Carlton 3053Cuisine: ItalianRisotto con funghiThis mushroom risotto was very well-cooked and had the perfect amount of flavour. There were plenty of sizeable pieces of mushrooms and the caramelised onion added a nice contrasting texture. It didn't taste too creamy or too bland. Service was pretty fast and pleasant, no complaints there. The only downsides were the seating arrangement inside (a bit on the crowded side) and the location of the toilets (it seemed like they were in the backyard). The meals were also a little on the pricey side compared to other Lygon Street restaurants, but it ...
Location: 121 Lygon Street, Carlton Link: www.chiangmaithai.com.auCuisine: ThaiThai food is not something that immediately springs to mind when one thinks of Lygon Street. But there are a surprising number of Thai places that are hidden in amongst the Italian eaters. Chiangmai was one of these hidden gems to which I will be returning to.Mixed entrée - chicken spring rolls, chicken satay skewers, fish cakes, chicken curry puffsI quite enjoyed everything on this dish. The spring rolls were very tasty, slightly different to Vietnamese and Chinese spring rolls - I think it was less meaty - but tasted great with ...
When Lygon street comes to mind, Italian restaurants and their pastas and wood fired gourmet pizzas come to mind. Walking along this famous street in Carlton can be a tourist trap with all the maitre d’s beckon poor hungry customers into their restaurants. After watching the awesome movie Up, the usual gang went straight down here to have dinner at one of the few thai restaurants at Lygon. No, we didnt go to the thai institution that is called Ying Thai 2, Royal Aiyara was the destination to fill up with our tummies. Duck Rolls First up for the entrees, my friends ...
(our ‘lure’) Pim and Hong came over to Melbourne. And of course one of the top ‘to-do’ list is eating out on Lygon Street, the Italian heart of Melbourne (Seriously, do I sound like a food journo yet? Can I quit my IT job now?) I love Lygon St. Sure it’s a bitch finding parking there on Friday/Saturday night but I just can’t get enough of it. (awww, first date I’m sure) On that night, I could swear all of Melbourne were on Lygon St. Every single restaurant was packed. We couldn’t get a seat at our favourite restaurant but let’s face it pretty ...
Location: 141 Lygon StreetLink: http://www.universalrestaurant.com.au/indexflsh.htmlCuisine: ItalianPrevious Reviews: Universal Pizza, Pasta and RibsLarge capricciosa pizzaGood old Italian pizza, the base was thin and crispy, and there was plenty of topping. Flavours balanced perfectly! A word of warning... 'large' means LARGE! We over ordered.Seafood marinara penne (main size)One of the few tomato-based sauces on the menu that were not spicy (all the meat ones were cream-based, and most of the other tomato-based ones were spicy). There was a fair bit of seafood (you can see the mussells in the picture) but it would have been better with more fresh prawns and maybe ...
Location: 177-179 Lygon Street, CarltonCuisine: ItalianCompany: Janette, DuyEvery time I walk down Lygon Street, Cafe Notturno always seems to be bustling with people. So today, when we went to Lygon for an early lunch, we decided we would give it a shot.~Food~The menu had a good range of pastas, pizzas and typical main meals, including parmas, steaks and salads. We all ordered pastas. My penne bascaioli was essentially penne with chicken and mushrooms, with a cream and napoli sauce. Quite rich, but the flavours were tossed together nicely. Janette had the penne matriciana, which looked tasty, but was apparently quite ...
Location: Hardware LaneCuisine: ItalianCompany: Jie~Food~Since Jie had been craving for pasta for almost a week now, we finally went in search of a good place to eat. Stumbled across Cafe Max whilst perusing Menulog for restaurants to add to our growing list of places to eat at. The cafe was one of the many places hidden away in Hardware Lane - a place we always seem to overlook when looking for somewhere to eat - and was surprisingly spacey inside. Ordered a Peking duck risotto and linguine marinara. Although the servings were quite small [in comparison to other places], they ...
Location: 141 Lygon Street, CarltonCuisine: Italian... what else do you get on Lygon?Company: Jenn - on one of our Wednesday 3 hour feasts~Food~We had our eyes on the dessert menu, more specifically, the lemon and sugar crepes. So we kept the mains to a minimum - ordered a small pizza and a small pasta. The word 'small' was quite an underestimate. The servings were pretty huge for the description and we nevertheless stuffed ourselves. The pizza was crispy, the pasta was more bland and in my opinion, could have used more sauce. Nevertheless, we finally got around to getting the ...
237 Lygon Street, Carlton Phone 03 9349 5500 ***THIS RESTAURANT HAS NOW CLOSED*** By their own admission, the Bombom at Inkari is sweet, strong and sexy – and I’m certainly not going to argue. This double shot of espresso comes with a sunken layer of deliciously sweet condensed milk, giving one the dilemna of whether to dip your spoon in and extract a clump of milky sweetness, or to stir the whole lot around, making the short black into a kind of short sweet milky brown. Either way, there is absolutely no need for extra sweetness as this lil’ beauty will ...
