My one and only photo from the day, taken from the street outside my house . . . complete with light leaks and a church cross. I'm always amazed at how these pilots maneuver with such synchronicity while painting the sky with jet streams. Thanks to the most recent followers for signing on and for all those that have visited. The blog is getting close to 1,500 clicks!X
I'm happy to say I sold my first print via my Made It store. It brings with it a nice feeling and it's an encouraging sign after all the energy I've been directing into my work. Also nice to see 20 followers on my blog - hello. Would love all the visitors that stop by to sign up too - more than 650 clicks / peeps / stopovers and counting. Still tweaking the blog layout every now and again - the etsy badge is being a difficult child - so apologies if the gadgets keep moving around on you. Here's a ...
The last day of November is here so I thought I'd squeeze in one last post and a handful of instant snaps! The first batch of polaroid film I used, for my newly-acquired Spectra SE, expired over three years ago. It probably wasn't cold-stored looking at the peachy tint on all the photos. This vintage-feel is just part of the appeal for us polaroid lovers! Hope you all have a great week . . .
some local street art to make you smile . . . collingwood laneway gertrude st, fitzroy A very brief post today as I'm working on the final measurements for matting that will be framing some SX-70 shots and polaroid transfers. Hopefully they'll be ready in time for Christmas! And a warm welcome to caravan's newest follower. . .
Took a pack of polaroid 690 on a stroll today - a quiet Melbourne Cup day with hardly a car in sight. Walked four small blocks up to the local video store (will we ever get used to calling them DVD stores?) and by the time I had returned (with 8 weeklies and 3 overnighters) I'd finished the film. I'm using this week - Roid week 2009 - to take a few more shots than I normally would. Snapping away with the knowledge that thousands of people around the world are doing the same thing - shooting polaroids for one week ...
I love my neighbourhood and have since the day my family moved here 25 years ago. What is it about your own turf that makes you feel so grounded and at home? Maybe living overseas for several years has made me appreciate the place even more. Whenever I need to clear the head, or step out for a photo fix, I usually wander the streets that surround my home. I never tire of walking past the same homes, warehouses or cafes and I've lost count of how many hundreds of times I've travelled down certain streets. Even so, I always see ...
Finally my first goops have emerged.Oh, the joy! And what is a goop? The 'other half' of peel-apart film - the delicious instant-photo by-product that should never be destined for a life as landfill. With a little TLC it can instead be nurtured to reach its full beauty and potential. You could easily fall in love with the goop more than the original photo, yes? It has that extra something... goop / negative original photo The purple-hue that you see is the natural shade of the goop from the particular film I used. It is then transformed into black & white or sepia. Hope you ...
I'm not sure why, but I am drawn to a beauty in abandoned buildings, crumbling structures, derelict houses and building sites. My mother reminds me constantly of her concern. Smith St demolition - early 2009 Denton Hat Mills just prior to redevelopment - Abbotsford early 2008 ...featured in B+W Shades of Grey Exhibition, Pigment Gallery, Melbourne June 2008 I can easily imagine the life that used to fill the rooms and hallways of these buildings; workers sewing leather boots, steaming felt hats, sorting wool or stitching coats. Perhaps growing up in Collingwood - at a time when the breweries actually worked and filled the air with the eye-watering ...
Getting up at the crack of dawn to shop at the farmer's market at the Abbotsford Convent or Collingwood Children's Farm is a challenge during the cold months and today was no exception. Snow at Woodend, freezing down by the Yarra - or a warm bed and a sleep-in. An easy decision, yes? But making the effort to get down there every couple of weeks is well worth it for the amazing locally-grown produce and other tasty fare. This morning, someone else was spruiking their own goods, but not of the organic, cottage-industry creations you usually find at the market. Spritely ...
