“Where are you right now?” “Provenance” “Of course you are…” “Yeah, where else would I be?” Guess which one I am? Usually if I am not at the Enoteca, The Gem or at the bar at Cutler, I’m here. I’m either drinking some of the Crafty Sunday beers (when it isn’t a Sunday), or having a shot of something something with the owner, Dave. I have to admit, this may not be the BEST place in Collingwood or Fitzroy, but it is pretty damn good. They consistently try to offer the best quality food for the lowest prices and the crew are all easily excitable, if ...

That’s right, bitches. The Tote had reopened and I managed to get free tickets to the re-opening. It was worth it, though it wasn’t as sticky as it was in January and they’re missing a pool table. Everything else is pretty much the same, but I think they’ve cleaned their lines and installed a cider tap. Oh yes, and there is a taco van in the courtyard. How did I miss that? Well, it is the creation of the man in sandwiched between the two hot chicks (they may or may not be my friends, with the blonde one being dubbed, “The Taco Chick”) ...
I have a very cool friend who is the barista at Pearl Oyster. He also comes around a lot and is the fill-in girlfriend for my housemate. It makes sense to me. On a particular day when we were all very over hung and in need of resuscitation, I dragged the boys to Proud Mary. I have never eaten breakfast here, but it was pumping harder than a body-dysmorphic body-builder from Brisbane, and probably brought out as many plates of eggs as one would eat. And never ever let me train on a 35degree day, after a heavy night of drinking, ever again. I ...
I managed to hang out with my sister a couple of weeks ago. I like my sister. She understands my stupid humour and has much of the same…but it is more polite and less crass. We are same-same-but-different. Um, don’t think like that. Gross. The point is, I like her and her eating efforts. Although, on this certain trip, she disappointed me in her inability to finish her main. You see, she rarely is defeated by food. When she was in high school she could eat a whole family pizza on her own after school and come home and have 2 servings of dinner and still ...
NYE/NY for 2010 was an interesting one. It went for a little too long (ahem, 4 days), I caught up with a bodybuilder, ended up at more parties than I can remember, had an intermission at the Melbourne Hospital, watched a few too many movies and hung out with the winner of the Australian Apprentice. I am sure more happened, but be glad that I remember this at all. I also had a party with my housemate where I deboned 18 quails, made about 50 Lt of sangria, which ended in my housemate and I standing over my giant stockpot with a ...
Who buys a mannequin with very large breasts? Presumably sex shops do in order to display sexy underwear for silicon-enhanced women. That might explain the sculpted and painted nipples on this mannequin that are lacking on the standard model. The blond wig is the final touch, indicating that this is a quality model of a sexy bimbo. Mark photographed this one in Collingwood in the window of a shop that sells mannequins. I’m going to start this post off with a hmmmm, followed by I hate hipsters. You all know I hate hipsters. If you don’t know how much I hate hipsters, or you are a hipster, then, sorry, you’re in for a mountain of hate. Cavallero. Yes, they support streetsmart, but I am very sure they suck so much at life their contribution is very minimal. For those of you who haven’t been to Cavallero, it is that overly considered looking place with white walls and black gates on Smith St, near Johnston. I had, at the time, been playing a game of neglect ...
but I thought I should post it anyways. Strike me down, for the trends I keep with. I’m talking about Proud Mary, the other specialty coffee house, you know… in Collingwood. It’s been open for a little over three weeks now and I have had the experience lingering in my mind-tank for a little over a week. I know, I got lazy and started filling my time with book-reading. Something that is entirely necessary when you’re burning holes in your head by over-analysing 1780s Australian colonial art in a mad-rush to graduate…but that is another story. It’s my new Seven Seeds and you ...
This is a photo of the ‘Thank You’ book at Bamboo Room (which also sounds dirty). I found this place when I went to the old Lost and Found location and saw that it had turned into an Asian supermarket (of the same name), run by the chef’s husband. The chef is one woman, from Northern China, who cooks Northern Chinese dishes and simple Sezchuan as well. She apparently has a huge thing with balance and harmony as she is a qualified natropath. They, like the menu are unpretentious, honest and humble. After a few drinks last week, after watching the last ...
I can’t remember all the details of these, I mean, I have done me some good eatin’ since these were taken. Found…somewhere. Ramen in miso broth with egg at Happy Kappa, about 2 weeks ago. Phil’s teriyaki chicken don at Happy Kappa. Mum Cha session over a month ago…Mother’s Malaysian Laksa at Coconut House, Elizabeth st. My rice noodles at Coconut House, other parts in next picture. The other part… Unadon at Shoubu, Smith st.
This is the exciting bid to make a regular, stimulating, friendly, warm, boozy and relaxed cinema experience with all due care to the comfort of our visitors but… The chairs are just chairs…… so the typical derriere MAY become uncomfortable with time. We will have SOME soft things but if you are prone to discomfort bring a cushion…. or if you are really kind, donate any unwanted cushions to the venue, so we can become more like a luxury liner
Yep, it’s true, and no politicians this time. From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. See www.mfm.com.au, $2 entry and $2 parking. It’s a plastic bag free zone, so bring baskets, trolleys, and bags of your own.
