This stencil is down low on a Fitzroy dumpster, so I squatted down perilously close to a gutter to take it’s picture. A sweet umbrella-holding girl then helped me up, asked me what I was looking at, and then wanted to take a picture herself. So I held her umbrella over both of us while she did. Yet another reason why I love the northside… Filed under: fitzroy, love your work

I got totally soaked searching for these pasteups, but it was worth it… Apparently, they’ve only been up a few days. The hooded basket carrier is near the Rose Street Market. Click to view slideshow. The two mysterious zebra riders are near Gorker Gallery. Seeing them loom up out of the rain was totally amazing! Check out Urban Cake Lady’s exploits here… Filed under: fitzroy, love your work

This pleasure seeker is having a sumptuous few days… Whisky tasting, the Seasonal Pleasures Pear Dinner at Provenance, good friends, and great times. Vic Market this morning, and a pot of sweetcorn chowder bubbling on the stove this afternoon. Tomorrow will see me back in the kitchen, where I’ll be making spicy red coleslaw and a batch of caramelised onions, perfect sides for scotch fillet steak (and more friends to dinner). I also hope to get to celebratory drinks with Cindy and Michael, who have posted 1000+ times at where’s the beef… Filed under: dee-lites, fitzroy, love your work, northcote, ring-a-ding-ding-recipes ...
I’ve seen this out of the corner of my eye so many times recently. On the tram, looking over the tops of people’s heads, ducking under stray arms, hoping I could walk past before it disappears. Today I did just that… Filed under: fitzroy, love your work
Dear ghostpatrol, This afternooon was sunny, so I decided to walk to work from Gertrude St. I stopped a few times to admire your pasteups, which I love. Thank you for making a delightful day even better! Best, Vetti Filed under: fitzroy, love your work

Today’s jaunt involved a visit to BSG. I enjoyed Jak Rapmund’s mixed media and stencils on found wood, illustration/collage/prints by James Panic, and the toy art of Rob Thompson (yes, I own three ziplings already). Other favourites include Amy Calton’s kooky felt animals, and the eco-friendly creatures of Antonia Green. Thanks to Mark, who attended on opening night, and inspired me to visit. Read his review here. Mike O’ Meally’s film stills are truly amazing. Today I was fortunate enough to have Lamington Drive all to myself, and enjoyed wandering through this show. For those who came in late, Spike Jonze invited Mike to hang out on set for a week, and capture the wild rumpus on film. Printed on 30×40 canvas, these images are lively, dark, and playful. Mike O’ Meally’s work is on show at Lamington Drive until 13 March. Read the Artabase exhibition blurb here… Filed under: fitzroy, love your work
Had the gallery all to myself this afternoon, and really enjoyed looking at these works. Michael Steele is a young Melbourne artist, and Accumulating is his first solo show. If you get down to Gorker a bit, you may recall seeing his work in The 40 Thieves: The Cuban Connection last year. Michael’s paintings/illustrations take the form of large numbers of pop culture objects, all intertwined. These clusters resonate with the impact of modern life – logos, the media, technology, shopping, entertainment, but also hint at the importance of texture, remembered objects, and our emotional connections. They are strong artworks, and ...

Those Beastie Boys said it – and I still feel it. Once, it was the parents, now it’s pals wimping out on “school nights”, ads pimping diet beers, and image queens counting calories in the catered buffet. People – get over yourselves!
