this is hardcore

I love SBS. I thank them for playing the 2004 Greek film Hardcore on Friday night, which I first saw at the 2005 Greek FIlm Festival in Melbourne. It’s about two teenage prostitutes, their life on the streets and their dangerous aquaintances. They’re definitely trouble.

The film brings to mind the lyrics of Pulp composer Jarvis Cocker – particularly his lyrics to the title song of their 1998 album This is Hardcore:

You are hardcore, you make me hard.

My colleague Lana is so talented and versatile! On Friday December 29 she was doing her human statue performance in the Bourke St Mall to the delight of many.

Faces are endlessly fascinating. Whether real or imaginary, faces focus the eye on the expression of emotion and signs of personality: the pout of lips, the curve of eyebrows, and the daydream expression captured by Rone (above).

prosecutors will be offended

On many walls around Fitzroy you may see signs saying ‘Bill posting is not allowed – offenders will be prosecuted’. While I sympathise with property owners to an extent, I also like the irreverent approach of ‘The What’s on Wall’ on Victoria St in Fitzroy. It encourages bill posting. The prosecutors will be offended.

hello Sydney

travel sydney

Flying into Sydney, as I did last week for work, is always a pleasure. The combination of a window seat, the need to queue in the air before land ing at the airport, and the resulting flight around the city to approach the airport from the north created a rare opportunity to photograph the city from the air.

Flying out of Melbourne last week to go to Sydney for a day’s work enabled me to take these pictures of our fine but flat city.
