About Fitzroyalty

Fitzroyalty - hyperlocal news and reviews about Melbourne’s first suburb: Fitzroy 3065 - is a local news and reviews site for Fitzroy residents and visitors. Read the about and hyperlocal pages for more information.

It features stories on the suburb of Fitzroy in Melbourne, Australia, and reflections on life from a socially libertarian, economically socialist, culturally anarchistic and radically individualistic point of view.

"I hate almost everything you write yet I cannot look away. You’re better than [Andrew] Bolt." User comment.

The fine line at Gorker gallery

I dropped in to Gorker gallery to check out their second exhibition ‘The fine line’ by Nate Holmes Trapnell. I also got to speak to gallery owner Luke about the gallery. I mentioned how much I enjoyed their opening night and he said they were thrilled by the response of the local arts community and the many bloggers who spread the viral marketing campaign about the gallery.

Luke also had the inside information on a mystery that had me perplexed: how did the Off the Kerb gallery on Johnston St get a whole car in their front room? Answer: they removed the whole window frame and installed a ramp to get the car in for the exhibition featuring work by Ford designers.

As I like cars and art, I enjoyed Nate’s work, especially because of the real car in the centre of Gawker. Obviously with their roller door access to the street moving the car in was much easier than at Off the Kerb!
