agony and ecstasy

A laneway off Leicester St behind Nobody jeans typifies Fitzroy street culture. On one wall an often photographed and reproduced work of street art expresses a scream of agony or ecstasy (I can’t tell which), while on the other side two unfinished supermodels observe dispassionately.

At their feet lie the discarded needles from the previous night’s indulgences. I have no issue with drug use (in fact I think it should be completely decriminalised), but when selfish junkies endanger other people by leaving dangerous fits lying around I feel disgusted by their indifference to those around them. That is the real crime.
