Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix – driver preparation
Watching drivers prepare themselves for a race is fascinating. When in the Formula BMW Pacific support paddock assembly area I was able to photograph the complete sequence with these drivers.
1 – Balaclava on. Hey, who turned out the lights?

2 – Race overalls on. I call this position ‘the yearning of the pelican’.

3 – Hold helmet by straps and prepare to put it on. Pause for a moment and look philosophical for the photographers.

4. Tighten helmet straps.

5 – Check eyeballs are installed correctly.

6 – Put on Head and Neck Support (HANS) device (official, wikipedia and FIA pages).

7 – Get in the car and have the engineer tighten the seatbelts. Oh that tickles!

It’s time to go racing!
