As the first Grand Prix I have attended outside of Australia, there were many strange, exciting and wonderful sights to see in the paddock as well as on the track in Singapore. The following images are a sample of the things I saw that did not fit in to any other story I have written about the race. I’ve file this image under ‘you don’t see that in Australia’. Not unless you rename it the ‘pray to end Mark Webber’s bad luck tent’.

These guys in yellow on yellow bikes with fire extinguishers attached were roaming around the spectator areas, ready to put out spectators that may have spontaneously combusted with excitement.

The Padang entertainment area featured this enormous sad ball made from astroturf.

Trees in the chaotic construction site that was the east end of the circuit were numbered. I have no idea why.

The camera operator at turn 13 had the biggest cherry picker in the world but still needed his garden umbrella. This combination of high technology and everyday ingenuity is typical of Singapore.

I’ve decided that no Grand Prix circuit is complete without a mysterious steam filled tunnel you can walk through. Bernie can you add this to the list of requirements?
