City of Yarra elections – rates and inflation
According to the Green Left Weekly, Yarra rates increase annually by inflation plus 2%. Does this accurately or fairly represent the costs of running local government or is it too much? Perhaps if the councillors did not waste so much money on expensive parties to indulge themselves, or to give money to their incompetent business connections so they can build a website, our rates would not need to be so high.
The cost of the individual hard rubbish collection service could be reduced by reverting to the previous six monthly service, which most residents prefer. Perhaps if they considered a fairer and more equitable balance between the needs of businesses and residents, the local environment could be improved for everyone.
