2008 was a very good year for music in Melbourne, and I was able to see some of my favourite performers including the Jesus and Mary Chain for the first time. In descending order these were my favourite shows of the year.

There’s numerous versions of this graffiti around Fitzroy. I feel like I am missing something when I read them – is it based on a book or a quote or something?

No one wants to be analogue in a digital world. The dumping of analogue tube televisions on the streets seems to be increasing. Their value has crashed and it’s not worth taking them to a pawn shop anymore. Many are in working order complete with remote control for your convenience.

Last month the Fitzroy and Carlton community credit co-op on Brunswick St, which used to look rather dingy, installed new translucent imagery in its windows. The change to the building and the street is dramatic – the premises look lively and clean and a place that people will want to visit. I think it’s brilliant.

On a recent Saturday I walked past Bar Open. Whoever was working behind the bar must have been hungover or something because the purple curtains were drawn and it looked closed. To counter this, a handmade sign stuck in the window indicated they they were open and randomly stated that they had a retarded beer.
