About Fitzroyalty

Fitzroyalty - hyperlocal news and reviews about Melbourne’s first suburb: Fitzroy 3065 - is a local news and reviews site for Fitzroy residents and visitors. Read the about and hyperlocal pages for more information.

It features stories on the suburb of Fitzroy in Melbourne, Australia, and reflections on life from a socially libertarian, economically socialist, culturally anarchistic and radically individualistic point of view.

"I hate almost everything you write yet I cannot look away. You’re better than [Andrew] Bolt." User comment.

the continuing saga of the Night Cat wall

Update 11 April 2009: Sync has posted some pics of work on the wall.

The Night Cat mural on the wall of Young St continues to make slow progress. In mid March, only the outlines of the words ‘Fitzroy’ and ‘Everfresh’ had been made, but since then additions have been made each weekend, and each time I go past I check for updates. Please note that the pictures below are annotated with the dates I took the photos, which is not necessarily the dates when the work was done.

You’re suggesting a criticism that does not exist. It’s simply surprising to compare how slow the work on this wall is compared to other Everfresh projects, which they seem to complete incredibly quickly. See the Rose St wall, which was almost completed in one weekend.

The “facemask” as you call it is by sync, not phibs

Who gives a flying fuck how slow its progressing Brian.
Iv been given allot of feedback from people who actually like following the progression from week to week. We have day jobs too you realise. You make it sound like we’re doing this for you and were letting you down. Its for us. Its always been for us. Its people like you that stop us doing community minded projects this.

I like following the new additions to the wall too. I don’t think you’re doing it for me. You’ve got a wall from a local business and you’re creating a huge work on it (including a big advertisement for your studio). You’re being a bit precious. If a few random comments from strangers stop you from doing art then you have a problem.

this is incorrect. this mural is not for us, its a gift to the community and not an act of pure self indulgence. its a piece of art that can be loved or hated by everyone. public art isnt about feeding ones ego, its about giving something to the people and hopefully inspire the youth while educating the oldies. i mean, if we wanted to be self indulgent we would have done pieces that went only half way up the wall that no one could even read.
on the other hand, i will say that it doesnt matter how long it takes and that its true that people enjoy seeing the wall progress. just have a bit of patients brian.
it will all work out in the end mate. hopefully the finished product will become another icon of Fitzroy. piece.

Thanks Sync. I think people read more impatience into what I wrote than what I actually said. I’ve already done a post on the completed wall and it is stunning.
