About Fitzroyalty

Fitzroyalty - hyperlocal news and reviews about Melbourne’s first suburb: Fitzroy 3065 - is a local news and reviews site for Fitzroy residents and visitors. Read the about and hyperlocal pages for more information.

It features stories on the suburb of Fitzroy in Melbourne, Australia, and reflections on life from a socially libertarian, economically socialist, culturally anarchistic and radically individualistic point of view.

"I hate almost everything you write yet I cannot look away. You’re better than [Andrew] Bolt." User comment.

Posted in North Melbourne, business, customer service, food on May 31st, 2009

To my vegan and vegetarian friends: please don’t read this post. It’s not for you. It’s about Korean BBQ. They don’t put tofu on the BBQ. Read about the delicious vegan food available at Wabi Sabi Salon instead. Now, on with the review of Toodouri Korean BBQ on Victoria St. I recently ate there for the first time with a friend who is a regular and really enjoyed the meal and the experience.

Fitzroy history – indulging in a drunken orgy

Posted in Fitzroy on May 30th, 2009

As reported in the Age, the National Library of Australia has released a beta of Australian Newspapers, a website that publishes archives of Australian newspapers. It’s an amazing new online resource for historical research, and it contains a lot of stories about Fitzroy. I’m going to use it to find curious stories to continue my series of posts about the history of Fitzroy. The first story is about a drunken orgy that occurred in January 1916. Here’s the article as it appeared in The Argus, Monday 10 January 1916, p 9. Below is the text of the article.
