I’ve become very fond of Juanita’s latin cafe since it opened in January last year. I like dropping in by myself for cake and coffee as well as taking friends there while we’re out in Fitzroy. We decline dessert at whatever restaurant we’re at and instead go to Juanita’s for churros and hot chocolate. I noticed recently while walking past that Juanita’s are now doing breakfast and I was determined to try it as soon as possible.

I’m thrilled to report that the Huevos Don Jose (above) is my new favourite breakfast. Two eggs are baked in a spicy tomato and chilli pilaf with chorizo and fresh basil. It’s amazing. The Huevos rancheros (below) is equally fabulous. It features two fried eggs on soft tortillas with a spicy tomato and chilli sauce, delicious beans and a generous amount of avocado on the side. Both are satisfying and filling, reasonably priced and represent excellent value.

I still have not tried the empanadas, so I have a good reason to return. The staff at Juanita’s are lovely and on the Saturday I was there enjoying my breakfast trade was brisk. I’m pleased that they seem to be doing well in these difficult times, and broadening their menu to attract more customers is smart business.

We tried out Juanita’s for breakfast last weekend, on your recommendation, and were most impressed! Still haven’t sampled their scrumptious looking desserts, though…

Definitely worth it! And getting up too early is bad for your health and should be avoided…

Thanks for the recommendation. Googled ‘best breakfast fitzroy’ for a local idea and the baked eggs and chorizo drew me in. Best fathers day breakfast ever!
