give this man a medal

Update 19 September 2009: there is an update on this case here.

I’d like to nominate a man for Australian of the year. One of his adult friends sexually assaulted his ten year old son, who was brave enough to resist and report the attack to his father. The father attacked the molester and forcibly removed him from his property. During the altercation the molester was injured. Now the molester has received a nine month intensive corrections order instead of gaol time while the father could go to gaol for assaulting the molester.

I hate the law when it is fundamentally unjust. As I’ve said before, I believe that there is no such thing as excessive force when it comes to defending your self, your family and your property. The molester should not have received a lesser sentence because of what subsequently happened to him. How will the boy feel safe knowing that the law will punish his father for protecting him?

What message does this send to responsible parents and vulnerable children? It says you don’t have a right to feel safe or to act to protect your own safety. I vote for more street justice. I’d like to see a few of these judges and magistrates suffer for their moral failures. How would they feel, and what sentences would they give, if their children were the victims? The maximum penalty is there to be used. While these subhuman parasites are in gaol they cannot harm more children.

Perhaps you should move to a country like America where you can shoot anyone unauthorized on your property. Or perhaps a lawless Zimbabwe so you can dole out punishment as you see fit.

This is more like what I want – a magistrate saying that the law has a responsibility to provide justice.

In the UK a 71 year old man punches a knife wielding burglar in his home and makes a citizen’s arrest. The judge says the burglar got what he deserved and sentenced him to 4 years jail. That’s justice. The Australian legal system should follow this example.
