We ate at Sapore on Fitzroy St, St Kilda which, as far as I can see, has previously only been reviewed by 1001 dinners 1001 nights. I’m surprised by this, as Sapore has been open for a year or more. Fitzroy history – from Post Office to retail

Recent work on the facade and apparently also the interior of the former Fitzroy post office building on the corner of Brunswick St and Johnston St has restored its visual appeal. The eastern side of the north facade on Johnston St is no longer ugly and is ready for new tenants.

dinner at Soul Food cafe on Smith St

I met up with a friend recently for dinner at Soul Food cafe on Smith St. We talked about the delicious uncertainties and miserable certainties of life and enjoyed an excellent dinner. The Vegie Bar may be arguably the best known and most popular vegetarian cafe in Fitzroy, but I think the food at Soul Food is better.

the new Fitzroy Post Office shop

I wrote recently about the forthcoming closure of the Australia Post office shop on Brunswick St, and a commenter noted that the Gertrude St post office shop already appears to have closed. Now I have learned where the new one is opening – in the former rug shop in the old hotel on the corner of Gertrude St and Brunswick St diagonally opposite the Newtown Workers’ Club. Will Australia Post’s cost cutting and consequent decreases in customer service result in the two post office shops being merged into one?…

Record Time at Gorker gallery

The current exhibition at Gorker gallery, Record Time, is a group show featuring about 30 vinyl records with laser cut or etched images designed by a variety of artists, including Stabs, whose title design below is the feature piece on one wall.
