I met up with a friend recently for dinner at Soul Food cafe on Smith St. We talked about the delicious uncertainties and miserable certainties of life and enjoyed an excellent dinner. The Vegie Bar may be arguably the best known and most popular vegetarian cafe in Fitzroy, but I think the food at Soul Food is better.

I had the amazing eggplant and haloumi with cous cous (above) while my friend chose ravioli (below) that she declared to be most delicious.

We each had an orange and poppyseed cake for dessert (below) and they make an excellent espresso using Jasper coffee. Soul Food are also one of the few places open on a Monday night, which is handy to remember.
