On Wednesday night I attended the book launch of Beautiful Waste: Poems by David McComb (songwriter from the Perth band The Triffids) at Bar Open along with lots of other Perth emigres (and a few Melbournians). The evening included readings of McComb’s poems by Judith Lucy and Sean M Whelan and performances by The Blackeyed Susans and The Single Men’s Drinking Club, featuring The Triffids guitarist Rob McComb, and others.

I enjoyed listening to the readings and the music was excellent. I was never a dedicated fan of The Triffids but they were an influential band whose music was always on around me, and it soaked into my consciousness.
