About Fitzroyalty

Fitzroyalty - hyperlocal news and reviews about Melbourne’s first suburb: Fitzroy 3065 - is a local news site for Fitzroy residents and visitors. Read the about and hyperlocal pages for more information.

It features stories on the suburb of Fitzroy in Melbourne, Australia, and reflections on life from a socially libertarian, economically socialist, culturally anarchistic and radically individualistic point of view.

"I hate almost everything you write yet I cannot look away. You’re better than [Andrew] Bolt." User comment.

no footy for you

For readers over 30, I’ll translate this sign: Black Pearl wishes to advise customers that the wearing of football team attire (and the primitive tribal behaviour it encourages) is aesthetically undesirable and is not allowed in our sophisticated establishment. Thank you for your cooperation.

Its signs like ths give Fitzroy a snotty name ( ie Gentrified….)

Unnecessary, particularly during finals weeks when most people show a bit of interest in sport in ths town.

    exactly.

i’m no fan of football at all but uh isn’t fitzroy the home of of one of the first ever VFL teams and played/plays a major part in the culture of the suburb?

the history here does go back a litle further the latest “funky” bar to open on brunswick street.

go to any of the more historic fitzroy pubs like the Union, Napier, Standard or Rose and see how well your “eew, football is for the common folk from the ‘burbs” attitude goes down.

snobby, elitist attitudes like the ones displayed above rip more of the heart out of Fitzroy than any tapas bar does…

Maybe they are anti football league members? Apparently the square football badge posse is still active. Can’t imagine coloured up fans hanging @ BP anyway, so that sign is unnecessary, as well as pathetic.

and surely to be truely “rockin’ it old school” in fitzroy, the sign would have said Lions football colours only?
