On the busy Alexandra Parade and George St corner in North Fitzroy is Sainsbury’s Artisan Bakers, which make divine baked treats. Their Portugese tarts have a soft almost gooey custard filling compared to the firmer custard in those from Casa Iberia and Juanita’s, and the pastry is thinner, but they are absolutely delicious. I can also recommend the apple scroll and the herb, garlic and cheese loaf, which is particularly amazing toasted and spread with butter and vegemite.
