the distressed look

This was the wall of Bimbo Deluxe on Thursday morning. The render seems to have come away in large chunks overnight and a tradie was assessing the damage as I walked past. I hope no one was injured when it fell. The distressed exterior is popular with several pubs in the Collingwood / Fitzroy / Carlton area, but in this case it’s taking it too far.

Yes, definitely bluestone – I don’t know the original name of this building, or whether it was built as a hotel but I assume it dates from the c1870s bluestone building era.

What’s more worrying is that one of the big metal lanterns that hangs in the courtyard fell a couple of months ago. Some of them have really pointy ends, and you wouldn’t want one to fall on your head. It fell during a time when it was really quiet; they’ve now been reinforced so that if the solder does break they can’t fall far.
