London holiday – lunch at the Harwood Arms, Fulham

The Harwood Arms, Fulham, was added to my list of places to eat based on excellent London food blogger reviews long before I left for London. By the time I got there it had become the first London pub to earn a Michelin star and getting in became a lot more difficult. I compromised on trying the dinner menu (more complex, with items like an entree of pheasant rissoles with liquorice) and found it much easier to obtain a seat for lunch on a Wednesday.

From the top down: a little bag of bread and a glass of tempranillo from the Navarra region of Spain, salted grilled ox tongue with cauliflower cheese croquette and pickles, pheasant kiev with spiced red cabbage, marjoram butter and champ, and vanilla custard with baked apple, cider sorbet and gingerbread. It was awesomely delicious. That’s a £40 lunch guvnor! For more reviews, see:

    Dear Brian

I’m so glad you ate there. I have heard a lot about this place as an old school friend’s son works there. Six degrees of separation!

He’ll be busy then! Once they won the star things were predictably frantic. It was an outstanding meal (but I’m not sure it was the best of my trip – that may be lunch at Launceston Place, Kensington – review forthcoming).
