Fitzroy outdoor cinema opens on March 20

An outdoor cinema is being opening in Fitzroy. The following post is adapted from a press release email. The Fitzroy outdoor cinema plans to provide a community cinema experience with free films starting on Saturday 20th March 2010 at the Atherton Gardens Oval, underneath the housing commission flats. The program will be shorts from Fitzroy and Bend it Like Beckham, commencing at 7.30pm. Bring a rug and a pillow!

The evening begins at 6pm with performances from local Sudanese dancers, Westside circus and musicians King Marong and Safara. Food will also be available. The Fitzroy outdoor cinema aims to open up a little crack in the invisible wall that separates the rest of Fitzroy from the Atherton Gardens public housing estate. It is an initiative of filmmaker Marion Singer, who has been making films with kids from the Fitzroy Adventure Playground (Cubbies) and Yarra Reporter journalists, and is supported by the Neighbourhood Justice Centre.

For enquiries please contact Marion Singer 0410 104 250 marionleesinger@gmail.com.

I think so too, and I hope they have clearance to show the film (as I have suspicions about filmmakers and their understanding of copyright and permission)…
