I walked past this sticker on a lamppost a few days ago and was appalled by its slogan – ‘death to illegal refugee scum’. Pleasingly someone had defaced it before I got back to photograph it. It’s not possible to be an illegal refugee. You’re either a refugee (with a genuine need for sanctuary and a right to seek it) or an illegal immigrant (usually driven by economic, rather than political, forces). Whatever you think of the refugee issue, you should at least get your definitions right. Then you could graduate to saying something useful about the issue.
