A new drink appeared in the menu at The Estelle on High St Northcote recently – a dill infused vodka martini with a slice of cured salmon. When I ordered it the Karen Gillan lookalike waitress raised an eyebrow and said ‘good for you’. Later, when paying, I chatted with the barman who made the recipe and drink, and he was pleased I liked it. It’s an excellent creation!

Yum! I’m really fascinated by the idea of food-inspired cocktails, like bacon vodka with bitters and maple syrup, or a ‘Cinema Highball’ (Coca Cola with popcorn-and-butter-infused rum).
