lunch at Munsterhaus, St George’s Rd North Fitzroy

More than a month ago EssJay previewed the opening of a new cafe on St George’s Rd. Called Munsterhaus, it is mostly but not exclusively vegetarian and is currently only open during the day. In the mood for noodles has already reviewed it, and I arrived for lunch last week full of enthusiasm. The deco inspired wooden interior is charming and the food and coffee are excellent and good value.

My medium sized plate ($11) was filling and, with many dishes to choose from, you could eat there regularly without getting bored. There are several hot dishes each day and many different salads and vegetables: I choose delicious couscous (with apricots and other treats in it), green beans with feta, wonderful rosemary flavoured potatoes, cauliflower in a mayonnaise dressing and garlicky brussels sprouts.

They also have cake! I had carrot cake (above) while my friend loved the flourless orange cake (below, both $6). The long macchiato is divine.

Munsterhaus is a fantastic new venue in North Fitzroy that deserves to do well. The staff were friendly and I’m sure it will soon be extremely popular.
