The hip hop fashion shop Furious Platinum (Myspace) has closed on Smith St. I’m no fan of the genre, but I wonder if, despite the urban nature of the style, most of its fans in Melbourne are living in suburbia. Maybe it would have fared better at a suburban shopping centre?

Aww, I felt sorry for these guys: they never seemed to have any customers and were always having sales. I think Smith St was just the wrong location – it’s more super-skinny jeans territory than baggy pants and baseball caps.

Agreed, and I’m guessing that like many small businesses they opened with enthusiasm more than a sound business plan and sufficient market research.

Agreed Brian, I’m always, always amazed how many people do this in Melbourne. Talk about throwing money down the drain, it defies logic entirely.
