lunch at Ying Thai 2, Lygon St Carlton

I assumed Ying Thai 2 must be good because it is always busy, but did not realise how many people love eating here. Compared to every neighbour on Lygon St, they have fewer spare tables and more customers for lunch each day. It gives you confidence when going somewhere new for the first time to see so many enthusiastic diners around you.

I ordered one of the lunch special – tender pork on rice with green vegetables (mostly hidden under the pork in the photo below) and awesome chilli sauce that worked so well with the rich meat.…

Update 15 September: this post is incorrect: Red Chilli appeared closed but received an interior refit and has opened again.

Another sudden closure on Brunswick St, this time Red Chilli. I never ate there and, as far as I can see, it only got one brief review.

John Citizen closes today

Cute retro vintage shop John Citizen is closing today. It’s a shame as I really like how this little strip of Brunswick St in North Fitzroy has become more lively in recent years with a variety of small businesses opening.
