this is my wall

These characters appeared on the Brunswick St wall of Sutton gallery a few days ago. They are by ninagoatwaldron (apart from the small Ghostpatrol sticker on the chest of the largest character). Sutton gallery has been the victim of art interventions before, such as this paint attack and previous paste ups by Meggs and Rone. I doubt these characters will survive more than a few days.

Regarding the Ghostpatrol sticker placed on this work, I don’t understand why one artist places their work over that of another. Is it a mark of recognition or respect, or an insult or declaration of turf warfare, to interfere with someone else’s work by placing yours on top of theirs? Or something less obvious?

A different example of similar behaviour is evident on the Vegie Bar’s Rose St wall featuring Rone’s femme fatale. He recently refreshed the wall (below), which was then written on, and within a day he had pasted another of his small images over the offending text. That appears territorial and possessive, particularly because hiding the defacement was apparently not his objective.
