the steak sandwich philosophy

In my experience, there is a fundamental difference between the steak sandwiches served in city and country pubs. At a city pub, you get great chips, fancy bread and sometimes fancy lettuce inside, but usually a modest piece of steak. In contrast, at country pubs the bread is likely to be supermarket sliced, the salad minimal and the chips bland, but the steak is fat and juicy like this example from the Milawa pub.

  1. I prefer the supermarket bread version. sometimes the best steak sangers come from fish n chip shops because you can have a potato cake with it as a side.

A few more recommendations are Clarendons fish n chip shop on clarendon st and the Taxi cafe place (forget the name) on stanley st nth melbourne. I think matt preston also voted this cafe as some of the best burgers in Melbourne. Talking about burgers I finally tried Beaxbox Kitchen, holy moly they are delicious.
