It’s been quite some time since my last visit to Court Jester in Brunswick, and since then some new dishes have appeared on the menu, including (from the top down) the boleks sandwich containing smoked salmon and Russian potato salad and ‘the bun formerly known as the worker’s roll’, which is a beautiful monstrosity. It contains capsicum chutney, sliced and roasted capsucum and zucchini, Polish sausage and cheese that is melted under a griller.

Finally, we also could not resist some pierogi, which are served with sour cream. While we were there a woman was celebrating her birthday with friends. The Court Jester staff came out with a cake and candles for her and sang Happy Birthday in thick fake Russian accents, which was cute, especially as they did not know her name and so sang ‘happy birthday dear… lady…’

If you like the Court Jester, head down to Thornbury and try Chair 14. I have no connection with it, apart from just having eaten there and reviewed it, and I think you’ll like it.
