A spontaneous conversation occurred on Twitter last Friday among Melbourne food bloggers about the newish print / website thing called Gram (site and Twitter), which uses food bloggers’ content to make money from advertising. On the same day, some of the same food bloggers appeared in the glossy Age magazine, which lauded their influence. It was an interesting contrast.

Fitzroy history – from engineering works to unknown

I’m not entirely sure about the attribution I’m going to make in this post. The description says this building is located on the west side of Brunswick St and the north side of Westgarth St. There’s another photo here. The location is the building behind what used to be Retro cafe, but with some changes including an additional level. The arches don’t seem to match, so I’m not really sure if the information is correct.…

While walking along Sydney Rd recently with a friend, we stopped at the grocery shop on the corner of Albion St (opposite the Edinburgh Castle hotel). There’s some great varieties of pantry staples in there, including some goods described as ‘fancy’. These random coincidences make me smile.

tell me where to go – dinner at The Alchemist on Brunswick St

By gaining 35 out of 100 votes (35%), The Alchemist bar on Brunswick St won the January ‘tell me where to go’ poll. I visited last night with a friend for drinks and food. The Alchemist opened in mid 2009 but this was my first visit. We started with cocktails before moving on to wine and food.
