I was sad to hear that the Basilisk secondhand bookshop on Brunswick St was closing. It was a lovely bookshop and I loved browsing in there.

Finally got to read your comment. Sad, however the future of bookshops will continue to be challenging. I started Basilisk in 1997 just before online selling started. We sold online but became hard to compete when most online sellers do not pay for a main street shopfront!

I am very sad to hear this news. Basilisk was one of my favourite bookshop stop-ins whenever I came over to Melbourne from Adelaide. Thanks for all the Evergreen Reviews, John, you’re a great guy!

John, we met in 2008 when I came to visit my son a student in Melbourne.
I even dared take a picture of you, remember!
I’m so sad to hear about the end of the adventure.
Even more when I was about to send the adress of your shop to my son Leo who is back to Melbourne, looking to work as an architect in Australia.
I hope you will continue to play some role in the field of our precious words’ universe.
Cheers
Jacques
