I got quite creative yesterday by designing this tshirt for Slutwalk Melbourne and by coming up with a new crowdsourced flood blogging project. I want to build a tool that helps food bloggers identify restaurants that have never been reviewed. When you publish the first review of a restaurant you tend to get very good traffic, because unique content is valuable.
@eatnik commented yesterday that she was visiting previously unvisited (and presumably therefore unreviewed restaurants) and replied saying that it would be great to create a wiki that listed all the restaurants in Melbourne, and allow users to sort the unreviewed ones. They could then make visiting those a priority in order to write unique content that would bring more traffic to their sites.
Finally they could then post a link to their review and tick the restaurant off the list as being reviewed. Listing the reviews is a secondary goal but it could be very useful, especially if we can get some geo data too.
Together, we could organise ourselves to review everything in Melbourne! @MyAchingHead and @phil_lees are interested. It could become a game – a treasure hunt. It could be like Where’s Wally for unreviewed restaurants. Michael and Phil have the technical skills I lack – I’m all about the concept. If you’d like to contribute, please say hello @indolentdandy.

I’ve had a bit of a dig around scraping a few of the big review sites and I don’t think that I can work out an entirely accurate approach (at least on an automated basis). If anyone else is keen to try, a great data source is Urbanspoon’s new restaurant feed (http://www.urbanspoon.com/w/feed/openings/71/Victoria/rss.xml)

Thanks Phil – I run out of talent at about this point in terms of coding the automation. I’m looking through the search you did before and adding suburb names to filter it, and have found a couple more I’ve overlooked in Fitzroy.
