What began as the Shamrock hotel in 1861 became the Ellington (or Eglinton) Castle in 1891 and then the Fitzroy Club hotel (between Rose and Leicester streets on Brunswick St). It was possibly not the best pub in Fitzroy – in 1894 they were convicted for selling cheap brandy out of Hennessy bottles. In 1913 they were prosecuted for, but found not guilty of, Sunday trading.
The end came soon after in 1916 due to a government led policy to reduce the number of licensed venues.…

After seeing the Vienna art and design exhibition yesterday at the NGV (very good, but not quite amazing, with the Schiele works the best of it), I was thinking of again watching the biopic of Klimt starring John Malkovich (which also features a depiction of Schiele).
