The building at 182 Brunswick St, which now has a minimal facade and houses Newtown SC and Blue Chillies, once had an ornate Victorian facade. It’s a shame when buildings lose their identity and character like this. I’d like to know when this was done – presumably before heritage laws were enacted to require property owners to maintain the facades of historic buildings.

Thanks for this. I have wondered why those buildings were so plain. Hadn’t even stopped to think that it may have been more ornate originally.
