Guided by the Fitzroy Flasher and the Melbourne Street Art group on Facebook I found this new work next to Coles on Johnston St. It incorporates an expressionistic style, and I think it’s referencing a painting but I don’t know who by. We’re curious to know the name of the artist, so if you know please let us know.

Pretty sure it’s Klimt’s The Kiss.

Very cool. Reminds me a bit of Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’.

Close but not quite, I think there is a closer match.

It reminds me of ‘Jesus is taken down from the cross’ (the thirteenth station of the cross) in Alaska

This is one of several images appearing in the CBD and Fitzroy over the last several weeks… They seem to be signed ‘Matt Wigg’. They’re beautiful, and often placed with great care….

Matt Wigg is quite prolific, there are some of these outside Thousand Pound Bend and in Centreway Arcade at the moment. Look out also for a circular work with a white skeletal tree inside…
