The dodgy looking bakery, the weird cafe/bar called Monties that was always empty, its companion pizza bar and neighbour cafe Tango Charlie, which lasted a year since changing from its predecessor, have all closed. While gentrification is not always a good thing, if it helps remove bad businesses that no one frequents and encourages new entrants to the area then residents will benefit.

The City of Yarra publishes a video

The City of Yarra has published its first video on Youtube. It’s about the 2011 community projects undertaken thanks to grants from the council. It’s very well made and I hope it gets seen. I know about it because they sent me an email about it and asked me to link to it or embed it.

It would help if the City of Yarra enabled commenting on Youtube, and also if it embedded the video in the news item about it, rather than just linking to it.…

dinner at La Cholita in Perth

While holidaying in Perth recently I joined friends at La Cholita, Perth’s new modern Mexican bar restaurant, which is similar to Mamasita. It’s also similar to Taqueria in London, as all exemplify one of the current world food trends – taking Mexican street food into a new environment. It also has an extensive tequila list in the way that Kumo Izakaya has an extensive sake list.
