adventures in illiteracy

Private design training provider Billy Blue advertises on trains in Melbourne. I saw this ad on the side of a train at Richmond station. ‘Degree’s’ (sic). Oh dear. Designers really should not be allowed to use words. They’re not qualified. And what is a branded degree?

  1. Oops. This is reminiscent of the Myer advertisement with a misplaced apostrophe. The embarrassing advertisement confirms the level of unprofessionalism at Billy Blue is well below standard practice. Early this year I responded to five separate emails asking them each time to remove me from their mailing list only to be told after the last one that another email will be sent to me so I can unsubscribe myself. When it arrived I happily hit unsubscribe however emails kept arriving in my inbox. I contacted them to explain what was happening however they didn’t bother to respond, I haven’t heard from them since.

  2. As a designer I should really be taking offence at your comment that designers are not qualified to use words, but I must remember I’m not even qualified to design.

  3. As an actually qualified designer I’ll take offence!

But seriously, that one mistake has ensured that I would never advise someone to get their degree at Billy Blue. They obviously have a basic disrespect for the very core discipline they purport to teach.
