lunch at Aka Siro on Peel St Collingwood

The newish Japanese restaurant Aka Siro on Peel St Collingwood is delightful. I had lunch there recently with a friend and was impressed with the food and the friendly welcome from the staff. Reviews by Temasek68, Cullenary delights and Poppets window concur.

Our meal began with a bit of one of the small entree items, this omelette in a surprisingly sweet and tangy sauce. I had a umeshu softdrink and then I had pork with daikon while my friend had tofu and mushrooms. The mains come with a small side salad, rice and miso soup.

A table by the window is a prime people watching space, and it’s easy to relax and spend the afternoon here. Aka Siro has the mysterious comfortable vibe that few places have and which seems impossible to artificially manufacture. It feels genuinely welcoming and that’s how I experienced it. I’m looking forward to returning.
