Healthy hummus and sides at the Hummus Place. All this for about $20 – a bargain feast for two.

Mixed seafood cebiche with corn and sweet potato at the Peruvian restaurant Panca. The service was somewhat ramshackle and our waiter was (probably) unintentially hilarious. The combination of his Spanish lisp, camp manner and absolute enthusiasm for drinks made with the Peruvian liquor pisco was charming and endearing.
The mixed seafood cebiche was the best I’ve had. The spicy roast chicken and prawn tacos were excellent. I liked the yuca chips but it’s dense stuff that my stomach is not used to processing.

A ‘salty pimp’ (softserve cone with salted caramel sauce dipped in chocolate) from Big Gay Icecream.

I stayed in the West village September last year and absolutely loved the food at Hummus place, However service wasn’t the best. I’m guessing we sat at place that hadn’t been cleared yet when there was already cleaned tables and peeved off the waitress, but we wanted a nice street view.
The waitress didn’t say much and gave us a bad vibe and also failed to bring us our drinks. It wasn’t busy either. Not sure if it was just the NY gruffness or because of her having to clean the table first.
