Hyperlocal news about Melbourne's first suburb: Fitzroy 3065

brunch at Bar Paradiso on Greeves St

The East Brunswick Bar Idda’s Sicilian deliciousness has been brought to Fitzroy with their creation of Bar Paradiso in the former home of Felice’s. They’ve retained the lovely interior and focused on the food, which is reassuring compared to places that seem to spend more money on the fitout than on the quality of the food. My poached eggs with cheese and olives was impressive, with the coffee also good.

My friend’s poached eggs with fresh ricotta. The eggs come with a crusty roll and butter. I think I will resume my former regular visits to Felice’s with visits to Bar Paradiso…

  1. If you’ve ever wanted to go to Bar Paradiso for dinner (sadly, they currently only open 8 am – 4 PM), note that they are currently running a series of bi monthly themed dinners, pitting various ingredients against each other, with patrons then able to vote on their favourite dish. We enjoyed the recent “Chicken vs Duck” dinner, which included a total of 4 small dishes (deep fried cinnamon chicken, duck tortellini, chicken cacciatore and a divine sweet and sour duck salad with pistachio nuts and radicchio) all for a very modest $30 a head. Drinks are able to be purchased at bar prices – which makes for a very reasonable night out when you purchase the $16 carafe house red! I believe that the next dinner is coming up in September, and will see fish battle against game (you do need to book – see their facebook page for more info).
