lunch at Ashkelon on St George’s Rd North Fitzroy

Ashkelon is a new cafe and food shop on St George’s Rd opposite Long Play and Malaymas, and I had lunch there with a friend recently. I chose serves of two of the four salads, and she had the socca with kaiserfleisch, scamorza and spinach.

The salads were fantastic, with one containing carrots, chickpeas, beetroot and silverbeet, and the other potatoes, artichokes, cheese, anchovies and pickled zucchini. I preferred the second one. The tart combination of the anchovies, cheese and pickles was delicious.

We then shared a piece of chocolate cake, which was served with lemon curd. The coffee is very good and it’s good to see another new development in the northern end of St George’s Rd. Ashkalon also provides ready made meals to take home and a variety of packaged food and ingredients, such as muesli and cous cous.

  1. WOW – even though I’m full of gyoza and katsu don this post is making me drool…Must get down and check this place out!

  2. I’ve got this one bookmarked! Glad to see your thoughts on it – it’s a rare cafe that does salads so well. Looks like I need to leave room for dessert too.
