Hyperlocal news about Melbourne's first suburb: Fitzroy 3065

disturbance at Atherton Gardens

It began about 3.30pm today with a helicopter circling around the Atherton Gardens public housing estate. It hung around for an unusual amount to time. Then the noise on the street increased, and it became obvious that something unusual was happening.

Numerous police officers had cordoned off one of the entrances to the towers and the alcove area underneath it. It appeared that no one was being allowed to enter (and perhaps leave). Children arrived from school and loitered around. Mums with prams chatted and looked around waiting for it to end. After two and a half hours nothing had changed.

The police didn’t look very worried or rushed. The fire brigade was there. An ambulance arrived then departed. A commercial television station van stayed for a while before departing without seeming to have recorded video.

No one seemed to know what was going on. A commercial cleaner with a vacuum cleaner on his backed wandered around the alcove. If you have information to share about this story, please comment below.

  1. I do know actually, I live right nearby and saw the whole thing unfold. I’m not telling you what happened because you’re a cunt and it pains me that we live in the same suburb.

  2. This is the first I have heard about the event. I did hear that people who use women’s genitalia as a term of derision (particularly for other men) are misogynistic nuff nuffs, though.

  3. steve is that you?
