Unfortunately local and state governments are corrupt and beholden to commercial ratepayers. They refuse to publish food hygiene inspection data to benefit public health because it may threaten the viability of bad businesses and this has the potential to reduce the rates and taxes they pay to governments.…

In addition to the meals I have previously written about in my 2013 visit to New York City, these meals are worthy of separate reviews. Apart from one, all were moderately priced places. More often than not, the tiny ramshackle places that have been around for decades served the best food.…

We had lunch at a tiny Polish restaurant in Greenpoint called Lomzynianka that has only 9 tables. It looks unremarkable from the outside, and it was an amazingly delicious bargain. First, a mug of borscht (beetroot soup). Then a plate of various cabbages and salads each – coleslaw, sauerkraut, carrot, etc.…

Healthy hummus and sides at the Hummus Place. All this for about $20 – a bargain feast for two.

Breakfast one day was at one of the best rated doughnut places in New York City, Doughnut Plant, where we had orange, peanut butter and banana, rose, and chocolate doughnuts.
