cider and swine lunch at Bress winery in Harcourt

On Sunday I visited Bress winery in Harcourt to partake in a roast pork lunch served on long tables in the winery tank shed. Entree was corn fritters, salad of grilled zucchini, anchovies, cheese and tomatoes and lamb ribs with mashed potato, followed by the roast pork with lots of crackling, roast carrots and beetroots, green salad (not photographed) and quinoa salad and, for dessert, meringue with strawberries, rhubarb sauce and chocolate sauce.…

the new Wine Republic shop on Brunswick St

I must begin this post by apologising to the charming father and son team who run Bottega Tasca on Lygon St, which is my favourite wine shop within walking distance. I won’t be visiting them, or Blackhearts and Sparrows on Scotchmer St in North Fitzroy, so often now that the excellent new Wine Republic has opened on Brunswick St in the space of the former Shoe Fitz.…

dinner at Neighbourhood Wine, Nicholson St North Fitzroy

Upstairs above l’Osteria and Woodstock, on the corner of Nicholson and Reid streets in North Fitzroy, what was long ago an illegal gambling venue is now one of the most popular restaurants in the inner north. After operating for a few months and gaining a positive anecdotal reputation, I was very surprised to find that no food bloggers have reviewed it (or at least I could find no reviews).…
