Years ago Kappaya was located on Johnston St just east of Hoddle St in Abbotsford. It relocated c2010 to the Abbotsford Convent. It’s a much better space in terms of having a reliable clientele, but the space itself is smaller and it can be difficult to get a seat. I advise going on a cold rainy day when the competition may be reduced.

Quint cafe is located on the Abbotsford side of Victoria St on the corner of Nicholson St. I think the stylish art deco building used to be a pub. It’s next door to the new development that contains Aldi and Woolworths supermarkets, and is an example of the significant gentrification that is beginning on this section of Victoria St.

Artist Lia Steele has her debut solo exhibition Eden opening tonight (6-8pm) at C3 Contemporary Art Space at the Abbotsford Convent, which incorporates a series of photographic portraits. The artist’s statement explains that the photographs examine the transitory stage of youth and human’s relationship with nature.

Although it’s on the northern side of Victoria St, and hence in Abbotsford, Flow cafe primarily services people working in the Victoria Gardens precinct in the north east of Richmond. It was previously reviewed positively by the Age back in 2006 and negatively by Breakies worth getting up for more recently in 2009.

When I first posted about the creation of this work in Abbotsford last month I was not sure who the artist was, but now I know it is Drewfunk, who has been posting photos of his progress on ‘The Little Giant Gardener’ on his blog – see here and here. Sometimes people make me so mad. I tried to enjoy the open day at Abbotsford Convent last Sunday but it was very hot and crowded, the suburbans in their monster trucks were turning parking into something akin to interacting with a bunch of footballers in a bar and the C3 contemporary artspace was full of bogans touching and playing with the art, as Melbourne Jeweller explains. It was all horrid and I made a rapid escape, but not before seeing and totally empathising with this work of art in the courtyard.…
This still to be completed work is on the same street in Abbotsford as Fare Share. Is it meant to be a portrait of KRudd or is it just my imagination? The top photo is from two days ago; the one below from more than a week ago. I’ll post more as it progresses.

In October 2007 Australia Post closed the Fitzroy Delivery Centre (DC) and re-structured the way mail is delivered to Fitzroy, Collingwood and Abbotsford. Previously, ongoing full time staff dealt with the mail from its delivery to the local area until it went into your letterbox.
Under the new arrangements, the first worker of each day (known as a Slotter) works from 5.30 am to 9.30 am at Spencer Street, Melbourne.…
